In an effort to introduce and preserve Indonesian culture
abroad, the Sports Coaching Education study program at the State University of
Malang is holding Pencak Silat Art Training (Basic Techniques) at the Sekolah
Indonesia Singapura. This activity aims not only to train physical skills, but
also to build character and cultural identity among the young Indonesian
generation in Singapore.
Training was held on 12-13 October 2024, involving
experienced practitioners and athletes in pencak silat. The training material
covers basic techniques, fighting skills, as well as mental and spiritual
aspects that are an integral part of this martial art.
"Pencak silat is an important part of Indonesia's
cultural heritage. We hope that with this training, the younger generation will
not only learn fighting techniques, but also the moral and ethical values
contained in pencak silat," said Prisca Widiawati, Head of the community
service program.
This activity is also part of community service which aims to increase access
and understanding of traditional martial arts for the young generation of
Indonesia in Singapore. In this way, it is hoped that the younger generation
will be able to know and appreciate their own culture better, while
strengthening their identity as part of the Indonesian community abroad.
With this training, the hope is to foster self-confidence and interpersonal
skills among the younger generation, which are very important for their overall
development.
